Anamnesis, A Five-Part Series

On the Sunday before Memorial Day, 2022, the Rev. Dr. LaTaunya Bynum preached a sermon on remembrance referring to the ancient Greek word, anamnesis, meaning “recollection,” “remembrance,” or “a calling to mind.” Reverend Bynam further defined the word as “refusing to forget.” As a family genealogist, I appreciated the difference. While engaging in remembrance tends to be an occasional practice, refusing to forget is much more of an ongoing activity. Reverend Bynum’s sermon inspired me to write Anamnesis: Refusing to Forget. The inspiration kept coming and since that time I have expanded it to a series. They are in order:
